Nova Scotia is a coastal province in the Eastern part of Canada and it is becoming increasingly popular as a tourist destination. It is a part of the world that is still largely undeveloped and here you will find a "slower pace" that is hard to find in other parts of Canada and the United States. While the majority of Nova Scotia lives life more slowly, in its capital of Halifax, you can still experience the hustle of a moderate sized city. Halifax is the largest metropolis in Canada east of Montreal. There is something for everyone in Nova Scotia and you will have to come here yourself to truly experience it.

If you are planning a trip to Nova Scotia and are looking for resort style accomodations rather than your basic hotel, look no further. Below you will find a list of good Nova Scotia resorts to choose from.

Oak Island Resort and Spa, Nova Scotia
Oak Island Resort and Spa, Nova Scotia

Oak Island Resort and Spa

Located just outside of Chester, Nova Scotia and about 45 minutes from Halifax. There is a legend that suggests there may be an old treasure buried on the island and while it's never been found, it's not been for lack of effort.

This is a beautiful resort located directly on the ocean. You can stay in the main resort or there are a few cottages and condos to choose from as well. Many of them overlook the ocean. There's also a spa and a fine dining restaurant that has a patio overlooking the ocean and Mahone Bay off in the distance.

Prices range from $79 in the off-season to $159 plus in the prime season. Oak Island Resort and Spa is open year-round.

Digby Pines Resort and Spa, Nova Scotia

Digby Pines Golf Resort and Spa

Located in Digby, Nova Scotia, on the Western part of the province and along the famous Bay of Fundy. This is considered by many to be one of the most prestigous resorts especially on the mainland of Nova Scotia. It sits directly across the road from the ocean.

The resort boasts an 18 hole golf course that was designed by one of Canada's finest. There's also a fully equipped spa for your pleasure and relaxation. If you so decide, dine in the resort's first class restaurant or for something more casual you'll also find a bar and a cafe.

Again, you can choose from a room or suite in the main building or stay in one of the resort's cottages if you're looking for something more private.

The resort is open from May to October and prices start at $169 per night.

Liscombe Lodge Resort and Conference Centre, Nova Scotia
Liscombe Lodge Resort and Conference Centre, Nova Scotia

Liscombe Lodge Resort and Conference Centre

Located in Guysborough County, Nova Scotia, about 2 hours from Halifax. If you're looking to really get back to nature and to not have anything around you for miles and miles except for trees and rivers, this could be the perfect spot for you.

There's hiking, canoeing, kayaking, trails, a tennis court and an indoor pool. Also, there is a restaurant in the main lounge (which is the only restaurant within a 30 km radius). Most rooms come with an included buffet breakfast.

Choose to stay in a chalet with fireplace, multi-room cabin or one of the rooms in the main lodge. If you're looking for something romantic, why not choose one of the riverfront chalets with fireplace? For a family, one of the multi-room cabins would likely be ideal.

The resort is usually open from June to October. Expect to pay around $160 and upwards per night.

White Point Beach Resort, Nova Scotia
White Point Beach Resort, Nova Scotia

White Point Beach Resort

As the name implies, this resort is located directly on a beach along the South Shore of Nova Scotia, about 1 hour and 45 minutes from Halifax. The South Shore is considered by some to be amoung the most beautiful spots in Nova Scotia perhaps because there are so many beaches here to discover.

Here you will find an 18 hole golf course, a spa and a marina where you can rent canoes and kayaks. The resort has its own restaurant but in this area, you're relatively close to Liverpool (about 25 minutes away) and there are dining opportunities there too.

At this resort, accomodation options include rooms in the main resort or there are cottages to choose from as well. If you're traveling with a large group or just want a little extra room, White Point also has entire vacation homes available for rental too.

The resort is open year-round and rates start as low as $100 for off-season to $160 and more for high-season.

Old Orchard Inn and Spa

Located just outside of Wolfville, Nova Scotia, this resort is in the heart of "the Valley." The Valley is a region in central Nova Scotia known for farming, beautiful scenery and being home to Acadia University, a major University in the province. In the Valley, you will find lots to do - scenic hikes and drives, interesting shops and many restaurants to try out.

At Old Orchard Inn there is an award winning restaurant and a spa. The dining room overlooks Blomidon and the Bay of Fundy which has the highest tides in the world.

Most rooms are in the main inn but seasonally, there are several cottages to choose from as well.

Old Orchard Inn and Spa is open all year. Prices start at around $140 in the off-season and begin at around $180 in peak season.
